  5. The shape and size of the PlacidoΓÇÖs 
  6. disc pattern has an affect of the 
  7. accuracy and repeatability of the 
  8. data.  Some instruments have used 
  9. a small pattern which is positioned 
  10. very close to the cornea (Tomey 
  11. Topographic Modeling System for 
  12. example).  This small pattern allows 
  13. a large area of the cornea to be 
  14. covered by the reflected pattern 
  15. but results in more errors in 
  16. focusing and alignment.

  18. A larger pattern (for example on the 
  19. EyeSys 2000 Corneal Analysis System) 
  20. minimizes the focusing and alignment 
  21. problems but may result in the nose 
  22. or brow blocking some of the pattern.
